Latest from us
“Shulmai Community Conservancy’s landscape management is a remarkable example of sustainable land restoration in dryland Kenya. Through rotational grazing, land-use planning, and community involvement, the conservancy has transformed once-degraded rangelands into productive ecosystems that support both livestock and wildlife. Their approach balances conservation with the needs of local pastoralist communities, ensuring grasslands regenerate while preserving access to grazing and water. The return of native vegetation and wildlife, including zebras and giraffes, is a clear indicator of success. Importantly, Shulmai’s leadership engages the community at every step—holding regular meetings, involving youth and elders, and encouraging shared ownership of natural resources. Their efforts not only improve biodiversity but also strengthen food security and climate resilience. Shulmai Conservancy has set a powerful example of how community-led landscape management can restore degraded land and ensure a sustainable future.”
